The more scenic way to Picton, in Prince Edward County, is along highway 33 and take the ferry to the county. While waiting for the ferry (it runs continuously) you can admire some painted bicycles at the side of the road. Once having crossed, drive up the hill to see the Lake on the Mountain (and the old model T (?) at the local pub.
Picton's main street (and just north) has many nice older buildings
Plus some nicely decorated storefronts and outdoor cafes
Base 31 is a former Air Force base that is being rehabilitated. Although a few of the buildings are well passed their best before date
Macauley Heritage Park contains a manor house (and old church), both are open to the public
A 10-15 minute walk through the woods, brings you to Macauley Mountain Conservation Area and Birdhouse City.
Birdhouse City, created in 1980, is a miniature community of purposeful and whimsical hand-crafted birdhouses depicting the unique character, culture, and history of Prince Edward County. Each birdhouse rests high on its own platform and pole and provides a safe place for birds to nest. Below are photos of just a few of the birdhouses.
Just west of Picton, Huff Estates Winery and Inn also hosts an art gallery and an outdoor sculpture garden. A few of the sculptures are pictured below.
A few things that caught my eye while wandering through the garden. Scroll over for ID.
