It was a nice day, we wanted to visit once more before the Parc became more congested with the summer visitors. Also we could drop in to the Lachute Market before going to the Parc and pick up a 60-70 pound bag of carrots for the deer and ourselves. (And check out the fleas at the large flea market😊)
There had been a lot of rain the past few days and the beavers had tried to take advantage of it, but their raising the dam caused some flooding so the Parc opened the dam partially, back to its normal level.
A killdeer was finding lots of food in the wet areas and a great blue heron was doing well fishing at the bottom of a small, freely flowing waterfall. A wood duck had her family out for a swim in an enlarged pond
We only spotted two turkeys, a yellow-bellied sapsucker was a bonus
Two deer quite enjoyed joining us at the picnic table for a feed of carrots
More new arrivals were out in the open: wolf cubs, bison and a few fallow deer fawns
The caribou have been moved to a drive-through enclosure, they seemed to have adapted to it quite well and were closer to us than in their former enclosure. Both males and the females grow antlers each year. One of the male's were quite large and complex with each antler having produced what looked like a hand, the hands extended in front of his face and overlapped. Two other "hands" were slightly further up the antlers.
The females' and the younger males' antlers weren't as elaborate
The female ibex and a rocky mountain goat sported their horns. The rocky mountain goats had finally lost their winter coats.
The silver foxes showed some changing interactions
One of the cinnamon bears took a short cut across their pond
