Three weeks earlier we had checked out the Osprey nest at the Iroquois Lock. Mum was still on the eggs. (See May PhotoStory). This time it was obvious there were chicks in the nest.
We arrived at 9:45, both Mum (bottom) and Dad (top) were sitting on the crane cables looking over the nest
Five minutes later, at 9:50, Dad departed to find a fish for the family
Shortly after, one chick stuck its head up
At 9:55 a bird was spotted returning from the fishing area, turned out to be a cormorant
A second head appeared in the nest at 10:05
A third chick revealed itself at 10:15
Mom returned to the nest, she and the three chicks waited for Dad to bring in the fish
Five minutes later at 10:20, Dad flew over the nest with a small fish, but kept on flying by
After a 20 minute wait, Dad flew back to the nest, after having eaten some of the fish
Dad helped himself to some more of the fish and then left
Leaving Mum to to feed the kids
