The Old Quarry Trail is on Eagleson Road in Kanata. Like a few other NCC trails, it is through a pine reforestation. This area was planted in 1962. The soil seems quite thin in some spots with limestone below the surface. A good number of cedar trees make it poplar with the deer. The pond/swamp makes it very poplar with the mosquitos. Unfortunately some key parts of the trail, a boardwalk through the pond/swamp, is closed meaning it is not a looped trail at this point.
Sun shining through the trees

There are a few malformed pine trees alongside the tail. These is not freezing rain storm damage from 1998 that is seen in other trails such as Mer Bleue

A few Jack pine trees are around, including one dead branch with the somewhat unusual jack pine cones still attached

The mosquito generating pond/swamp....

There seemed, compared to other trails, to be minimal wind damage from the Derecho

A few bird seed kits were on the trail, as can found on other NCC trails

A very few blue jays were seen or heard, two chickadees came to hand

What I think was a snowshoe hare was enjoying some seeds on the trail

Light and dark blue asters, bread and butter, pearly everlasting and white snakeroot were some of the flowers in bloom

Several spots had a definite limestone alvar look

A few thimbleweed plants were growing, including a few having gone to seed

More fall colours

A single clump of mushrooms and some lichen

Buckthorn has not encroached as much as in other areas, but they were a few buckthorn berries. An apple tree with no lower leaves left and a crop of very small apples was close to the trail
