After a number of visits with lots of green herons, we had to search hard and found just one pn our first September visit
There were more ducks than anything else, but not a lot of them either.  The first photo shows a male mallard have recovered from its molt, the second photo I believe is a female mallard and two juveniles. The last one is, I think, two black ducks.
There were however an unusually high number of spotted sandpipers. Or at least more than I have seen there before. They were in the shade making photography difficult in a bright surrounding. Several of of the skittered about (see video)
During a first visit one lone great blue heron was taking its time to get going on the cool morning. A few robins were active and some ring-billed gulls cavorted over the ponds
A second visit mid-month had more heron and egret activity.
One great blue let us get quite close and then flew down the pond to jon some ducks
An egret was up in some bushes relaxing while overlooking a great blue heron
We had not seen a black-crowned night heron at the ponds before
On the second visit there were two (?) green herons
The red-winged blackbird males callings were not as sprightly as in the spring and their coats were looking tired
It was a cool morning in the first week of September, but some turtles came up to bask in the warm sun
The number and variety of flowers is depleting but there still were a good number. Scroll over for ID

Some of the cattails had burst into huge seed bunches. I spotted a shaggy mane mushroom at the end of one trail
And as in other locations, early fall colours
