Nepean Creek has a spot that green herons frequent. Access is off Colonade Road.
On the day we checked it out we saw at least 4 green herons, an egret, a bald headed cardinal, a good number of painted turtles, a large Canada goose family and the usual mallard ducks and young.
While there is a nice branch for the herons to sit on close to spot #1 in the above map, the herons were more distant, although one at spot #2 (right picture) was a bit closer.
All the pictures were taken with an equivalent 600mm lens and were cropped.
Like most birds, they spend a lot of time preening
A few frogs were consumed while we were there, in the distance...
Bird in flight images were again, in the distance and of questionable success.
A motley looking male cardinal in molt appeared far away for a few moments
There were plenty of painted turtles, and their reflections.
Mallard ducklings were getting to be good size.
An egret dropped in for breakfast
One of the 10 goslings in a Canada Goose family was still showing some down feathers, while the others were maturing more quickly.
I know it is "just" a robin, but I liked this image...😊
A cotton tail rabbit was enjoying some wet grass for breakfast and a Virginia ctenucha moth was drinking from a viper's bugloss.
Sweet pea and hoary alyssum were blooming over by spot #3.
