Spring time is a great time to see the egrets in their breeding plumage and bright green eye surrounds.
We found a colony of egrets at a very small urban park where we went to look at azaleas. There were about 15 nests or so in three trees.
The cars had to drive very slowly for the constantly walking jaywalkers
Some birds were still collecting branches for nests, while others already had a brood.
One egret grabbed a stick out of the water on the fly.
SNOWY EGRETS
Snowy egrets are smaller than they look, with bright yellow feet
They will drag their bright yellow feet in the water when flying low hoping to attract fish. In the pictutre on the left, the snowy grabbed a fish on the fly.
Territorial disputes are settled by both birds flying up and threatening to kick the other bird.
CATTLE EGRETS
Cattle egrets are a fairly small egret, usually with a small brownish patch on their heads, moreso in breeding season.
I must admit I am more used to seeing cattle egrets in the fields with cattle etc, but we found a flock by a private dock, but they didn't hang around long..
