Two or so weeks after the first round of urban areas (see earlier PhotoStory), we headed out to Andrew Haydon Park, Hilda Road and Fletcher Gardens.
While we heard a screech owl, none were sighted at Andrew Haydon this time. It was a very windy morning and the owls were likely staying inside a tree cavity. At the main park a few Canada Geese were sitting on rocks in the morning sunshine and we spotted a lesser (possibly a greater) scaup duck about 75-100 yards off shore.
Hilda Road produced a male northern cardinal and a good number of blue jays at the feeders. A couple of mourning doves joined in as well. Then one of the foxes that patrols the area showed up for a few minutes.
After a few other non-nature stops we headed to Fletcher Garden where we heard there was a barred owl. Turned out there were two. One was larger than the other so we took it to be the female. (Female barred owls can be 1/3 larger than the male.)
The owls were not together, the male, on the left, was down quite low, while the female, on the right, was a long way up.
Also at Fletcher were two mallards down by the edge of the pond. The one on the left seemed to have a face on his beak/bill
We spotted a frog in the pond. With the weather lately we hadn't seen one for a few weeks, this guy hopefully went to the bottom and hibernated shortly after with forecast lows below zero in a few days.
There was a partial lunar eclipse on Oct 28, but we were too far west to see it, but it certainly was a full moon.
