We were up early, the forecast was for a nice day so we decided to make a day of it. Started off at Mud Lake (see Mud Lake May 2024), then headed to the Carp Farmers Market. Carp is a small rural "town" swallowed by Ottawa many years ago but it has not been reached by the city urbanifications yet. After checking out the market, and having a second breakfast, we headed cross country and ended up in Carleton Place, a separate town with a population of 14,000. They were having a town-wide garage sale, but they were too scattered to visit many. From there we headed to Perth, 45 minutes west. Perth has a population of 7,000. A conservation group was having a short nature walk along the Tay River/Canal.
The Carp Market attracts many customers, a good many bring their family dog with them. But there was something different this week. A local sheep farmer had been invited to display a few of his sheep. While some were kept in a central pen, he took two for a walk around the market for kids of all ages to meet and pet.
The nature walk in Perth was a very short one. I grabbed a few shots along the way.
Goatsbeard, fleabane, bladder campion and new growth on a pine bush
At the dock, a large bull frog was relaxing. It stayed there long enough for me to get four different perspectives of it. "They" always say to get down to your subject's level for the best photo. I tend to agree and like #4 the best
While we didn't get lunch here, we liked the wheel on the food truck/wagon
